Microsoft is eager to increase its search market share in China. Its latest move is to power China Telecom’s newly launched search engine called 114 (114.vnet.cn) via its new beta search service Windows Live Search. 114 has four vertical search besides its main web search: Forum, Blog, News and Yellowpages.

China search engine Baidu is again pulling away from the global giants Google and Yahoo! in terms of 2006 search market share in China. Baidu has changed its PPC (or Jingjia) algorithm since 11 Sep 2006 in which cost-per-click (CPC) is not anymore the only factor in determining its PPC ad rankings. Baidu has introduced the Combined Ranking Index to its new PPC algorithm which is determined by:

Many Adwords advertisers using non-US dollar as their Adwords accounts’ default currency should have noticed last week that many of their keywords have automatically dropped to inactive status.
