Staggered bidding is bidding different amounts for each match type, since they arguably perform very differently.

The idea is that exact match is highly relevant and gives you maximum control, so you bid the highest for all exact match keywords (say $3). Phrase match can deliver some less relevant traffic so bid slightly lower (say $2). Broad match often delivers some pretty diverse traffic which is not likely to be as relevant as your exact and phrase keywords, so bid lower still (say $1).

It&#039;s just a way of keeping bids in line with the expected quality of traffic.
