Google Webmaster Tools Shows Your Site Backlinks

For those webmasters who have been frustrated by Google’s Link command (e.g Link:www.gordonchoi.com) for not showing over half of the inbound link data related to their sites, they can now see more!

With the Webmaster Tools provided by Google, you can view backlinks (external links) pointing to your web pages, and internal links pointing within your pages. You can even download the linking data onto spreadsheets for further analysis.

Of course, you have to be the site owner or have access to the ftp of the site to be able to view the above data. You will need to verify your site owner status by doing one of the following:

  • Add a file to your site
  • Add a piece of code to your META tag

Other things to keep in mind about the Webmaster Tools are that,

  • Not all the backlinks are shown.
  • The backlink data does include nofollow links.
  • Not all your links carry weight towards your site’s search engine rankings.
