Microsoft Revealing 2006 Top 10 Searches
Today, Microsoft’s Live Search has revealed the top 10 searches for 2006 in different categories. Very quickly I’m able to draw the conclusion that the demographics of Live Search users are no where near the “techie” type, and in fact they are mostly using Live Search an entertainment platform.
- * The interests of the Live Search users are mostly on pop artists, sport stars or movies, which can be seen from the top 10 overall searches. This means Live Searcher users are mostly into entertainment.
- * Digital cameras are the most popular electronic products among Live Search users.
- The searches are heavily skewed due to this year being a Fifa World Cup year.
- Italy won the Fifa World Cup, but none of its player and any of its football clubs made it to the top 10 searches in the top 10 soccer searches. Can it be that the Italy national team has no superstar?
- Italy rather has made the top 10 searches in the travel destinations, and it is the only European destination in the top 10. No Asian destination has made the list.
- Users are very aware of and do care about the risks in Iraq and North Korea.
- No free software download (such as Internet Explorer 7) has made the overall top 10 searches.
- No Internet company (such as Microsoft’s rivals Google or Yahoo!) has made the overall top 10. Searching for Microsoft’s corporate news is not even a habit of the users.
- The top search keywords on each list being revealed are mostly of 1- or 2-word-keywords.

No surprises there really - I’ve always found MSN users to entertainment/music/celeb focused. If you can monetize that type of user, MSN can push some good traffic - it’s just a shame they don’t have the traffic volume yet.
[...] Earlier, Microsoft’s Live Search also revealed its lists of 2006 top 10 searches. [...]
The top search term, Ronaldinho, is most likely a big surprise to Americans because soccer is not the top sport.
A Hollywood celebrity would have been my pick….if I had to guess!
