Best Practices When Writing for Listverse

About Facts

Facts are important for Listverse lists. Usually on average, an item in a list should have 3 new facts. These new facts are considered “new”, because they haven’t previously been submitted to Listverse.

You should do your best to fit as many facts as possible into your list. A simple reason is that a list with many facts (that are proven) is usually more popular.

Facts shouldn’t only be presented as plain details. They should be presented in humorous manner.

About Sources

Sources are necessary for Listverse lists. Every fact should be backed up by some factual assertion with links to reputed websites. It would be best to have a source for every item in your list that contains a fact.

Try not to use Wikipedia.org as source for facts. But use organizations that actually have reputation to uphold the facts they have reported.

Good sources to consider are scholarly journals, academic publications, peer reviewed scientific studies, Google Books, or newspapers.

In an case where you have a source that doesn’t seem the original source or seems to have recycled another story, you should locate the original source. The original primary source may be the reporter actually at the scene who have interviewed someone.
